Fulfilling dreams one "Journey" at a time
Daily we go through life just living for ourselves (and family) and rarely thinking about how we can give back to the world, your state, your city, your church or just another human being. Sure you can give someone a handful of change or even a whole dollar. Some days you may even give up your lunch or coffee.
BUT could you give up thinking about only yourself? Could you literally GIVE of yourself? Could you give 10 months of your life, your figure, your health and heck your appetite to help someone realize a dream that they have always had? Could you be a surrogate mom? Go through the whole pregnancy and then hand over the one, two or even three beautiful babies to a couple who has longed for their own? Yes, you say...could you do it 3x???? Not many women could.
Well, my sister can. Let me tell you a bit about her. Kristi grew up in Hawthorne, Ca. Just like any other kid, she played sports, hung out with friends and went to school. Nothing out of the ordinary there right? As she got older she pursued beauty college and even with me singing "Beauty School Drop-out" to her any chance I got, she graduated and began doing hair. She met and married her husband not too long after this. As the mother of two boys (one with ADHD and one the is borderline Autistic) she had to become an advocate for her kids and learn to be nurturing and supportive in a very different way.
As the years progressed she was not only successful as a mom but also as a hairstylist. She really likened herself to a bartender, you know someone you can talk about anything to. Kristi's clients loved to come to her month after month. She really listened and was very understanding. Day in and day out she makes people look and feel beautiful and cultivates lasting friendships. She has always been so giving of her time and her friendship.
I have always thought she was wonderful, it wasn't until 2008 when I changed my opinion of my sister. Not only was she wonderful she was an Angel on earth. It was at this time my sister decided to become a surrogate mother. I was pretty skeptical about it but she really thought through and discussed it her husband. He was on board so she explored the option.
She registered with Surrogate Alternatives. INC and began the matching process. She quickly met and matched with an very great couple. These two were almost as loving and giving towards her as my sister was about to be for them. Shortly after all the medicine and the procedure she was confirmed pregnant with TWIN BOYS. Speed forward 7 1/2ish months and you'd have found her LIVING in a hospital because she was bedridden. After a few weeks she went home only to head back there a few days later and stay until the boys were born. It was hard, but she did it. Three years later they call her Auntie Kristi and she even gave them their first haircuts. They are adorable.
It would be an awesome story if I just stopped here, but no Kristi could not do that. Just over a year after the boys were born, Kristi was matched again. Yep you guessed it she stared the whole process again. Poking herself with needles, taking a lot of pills just to trick her body into thinking it was pregnant so that when she got implanted it worked the first time. It worked, TWINS again. This time a boy and girl. Unlike the first set of twins these ones gave her lots of problems. Lots of sickness for a long time. More pain then the last ones and more discomfort. Ending again with weeks or was it months in the hospital on bed rest. She swore if the first two or even her own kids were this much trouble she would never have done this...but of course God has ways of wiping our minds clear of certain things. At last she gave birth to two again adorable babies. However, unlike the first set, the babies would go to live in China with the man and his family. She only gets pictures of them.
Let's stop the post her to just say that she is one strong, loving and giving person. Could you do this? Give of yourself so freely. Not thinking solely of yourself, but of others so much that you'd be a "not so" easy bake oven?
Well we are now just over year after the last set and at the age of 40 she has started the "journey" for a third time. I am not only amazed by my sister's strength but by her heart to give. She is an inspiration to me. I'd say Mom and Dad you raised some pretty wonderful ladies, but your first is AWESOME!
What an amazing gift to be able to give someone. I only hope if I ever find myself unable to have kids there is someone just as amazing, loving and generous as my sister waiting for me to find her.
Xoxo BIG SIS I LOVE YOU!
P.s. some timing a bit but the story is still great and true.
