It's my day! Pay attention to me...
Oh you are busy today, ok I get it. I'm used to it because I am a middle child. 8/12 - National Middle Child Day, surprised? Me too, unbeknownst to me there has been a national holiday for me for a while now. No one knows the origins of this great day. Most articles that I have read about this wonderful day all say the same thing..."Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day." So who, when or where did this day originate from? The world may never know. (OK I stole that from Tootie Rolls)
This holiday is being talked about all over the internet today from regular bloggers like myself to MSN. Just type in National Middle Child day into your internet search engine of choice and you will come up with tons of articles...but probably more written by us middle children then others.
Some research states that the middle child tends to be more introverted, quieter, perhaps a bit of a loner. But the middle child does not receive much attention and often lacks emotional support, resulting in low self-esteem, insecurity and jealousy. Middle children often feel unloved. As mentioned previously, they can be introverts and loners and often act out to get attention. Wait no way. Ok I did start writing a book called "Pay attention to me" so this could be correct.
However, there is BETTER research (in my opinion of course) that states Middle children are more easygoing and peer-oriented. Since they can get lost in the shuffle of their own families, they learn to build bridges to other sources of support and therefore tend to have excellent people skills. Middle children often take on the role of mediator and peacemaker.
Not only is the above nice too read, but look at all the innovative, smart, famous and just great company we keep being a middle child.
Martin Luther King JR, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, JFK, Mandela, Princess Diana, Madonna, JLO, Pippa, Anne Hathaway and David Letterman.
After looking at that list, I personally think tt is very fair and fitting that we celebrate the middle child today. We should tell the whole world about it.
All you middle children out there, don't forget how truly are a wonderful, talented and special you are!
