Fiji - a day by day summarization - Day 2

Up at 7:15am for a 3 mile walk on the beach with E.  The beach is not a easy to walk on as the beaches at home, there is a lot of broken coral and shells, but the view is much prettier than ours.  On the walk we saw crabs, ropey things (found out later they are a type of sea slug), and the prettiest blue starfish.  It was the start of a nice and HUMID day.  Sweat off a few pounds before a great big breakfast, right?  NOT, let's just say it's a good thing that I brought my own food (instant oatmeal and GF protein bars).  My breakfast was a half cooked egg that was supposed to be scrambled but it was cooked in the microwave and a bowl of oatmeal.

After "breakfast" we all settled in to read or do our own bible studies before we start the rest of the day.  I sat there in the hammock swing and read and let my wander as I stared out to the beautiful crystal clear blue water.  Since we are staying on the coral coast of Fiji, the waves do not break on shore but more so about a mile or so off the shore just in front of the coral reef. Even when it rains, it is still beautiful. Lunch was salad, fried rice, potatoes and pasta salad.  Let me stop here by saying "Gluten Free" is not something they understand so I just said is there flour in here?  Answer to most things is yes...and my diet starts. :-)  Dinner was a traditional "earth cooking" or Lovo, followed by a Kava Ceremony.  When he explained the Kava Ceremony, he said it is like when you get together at the end of the day with your friends and have beer or wine.  Instead they have Kava.  Well it looks like muddy water, smells like wet dirty sock and tastes like crap.  Wow, if beer and wine tasted like that I'd save a LOT of money.  It rained pretty hard most of the afternoon to the night so spent the time relaxing and chatting with the ladies.  The Kava did not make me sleepy or sleep any better than usual...guess i needed to drink more. NOT.  Day 2 no tanner than when I got here.  OH forgot to say yesterday that I have a great video of me trying to open a coconut.  PRICELESS.  HAHA

Things I learned: The air in Fiji smells wonderful (most of the time), people live in villages and they usually are surrounded by their whole family including a very extended family group, Fijians are super nice, the island consists mainly of Fijians, Indians, and Koreans, they live off the land and trees, and it is ok to keep your eggs on the counter until you want to eat them.
