The American Past time

I just love baseball. I'm knowledgeable of how most teams are doing, the rules, the scoring and pretty much everything. Over the last couple of years I have grown to have a passion for the game and a great desire to go to as many games as I can. I am a Padres Fan, yes I can admit that no matter how horribly they are playing right now, but I was not always a Padres fan.

When I was growing up my Grandpa and his Dad, my Abuelo, were avid Dodger fans. As a child you tend to love the things your family loves as that is pretty much all you know. My Abuelo, was not only an avid fan and a season ticket holder for many years. I remember that he used to wear a hat all the time. Grandpa and Abuelo would sit around a watch the games when they were on the road. But if they Dodgers were in town Abuelo was at the game. Grandpa said he remembers being at the game when Kirk Gibson hit the homerun against Oakland to win game #1 in the 1988 World Series.

I know that Grandpa took all of us to a Dodger game when we were little.  Not sure how many but one time we all sat in the bleacher seats and though I don't remember ever detail, I know we had a great time.  As I grew older I still liked baseball, but my passion was soccer.  I still spent a lot of time with my grandparents but not many more baseball games.

In the last few years I have lost all but one of my grandparents.  It has been pretty hard to adjust to, but you just have to.  However, I will say that if you still have grandparents around be sure to spend time with them.  Find something in common or that they really like and go with it.  You just never know when they may not be there anymore and by then it is too late.  Be is baseball, shopping, certain foods...just figure it out you wont regret it I promise.

Tonight ( and a few other times since May) I have spent the evening with my Grandpa watching baseball (basketball too).  Grandpa is still an avid Dodger fan and he rarely misses a game.  Tonight Grandpa and I had a lot of fun picking on each other.  I was rooting for the Padres and he (and my uncle) for the Dodgers.  Last night I called him and told him that the Dodgers could have last night, but we would win tonight.  So when the Padres were losing 8-0 in the 2nd inning he was all smiles and joking.  We sat around for 3+ hours watching baseball, reminiscing about the past games we went to together or when he was with his Dad.  We talked about old players and the hall of fame.  Then by the 7th inning the score was now 5-8 and I was getting to joke with them.  He kept saying well the Dodgers do like losing in the 9th inning.  He had so much fun and he was smiling so much.  Priceless memories,  even if the Padres lost.

Well take me out to the ballgame anytime, especially with my Grandpa.  He even said he may even consider our (my roommate and my) invite to come over to our house next time to watch the game on our big screen.  My Grandpa does not leave the house much, so that is a big compliment.  Hopefully the 2012 season will be better for both teams.  I look forward to more of these great memories.

Remember if it is unladylike, fattening or fun, it must be good for you!

Ta ta for now
